Ears

Ears are the extension of skin and consist of three sections.

  1. The outer ear consists of the ear canal that sends sound waves to the inner ear.
  2. The middle ear consists of an eardrum and a chamber containing three tiny bones
  3. The inner ear includes the cochlea and has a complex structure.

In felines and canines, most of the ear problems are related to the external ear canal as it is prone to infections that result in inflammation. If left untreated the infections can spread to the middle ear and inner ear too. This can result in loss of hearing and loss of balance.

Eyes give an insight about colors and forms. Eyes are complex organs and behold way more than what we see from outside. Eyes are said to be the windows to the soul and represent overall health. When we look inside the eyes using specialized equipment, we can see nerves, vessels, and tissues that are not be seen in any other organ of the body. Eyes consist of three different layers.

  1. Sclera and cornea- it is the outer protective layer that envelops the eye
  2. Uvea tract- it is dark, thin, and contains blood vessels
  3. Retina- it is the neurologic layer and transmits electrical images to the brain

By carefully examining these layers your vet can determine the cause of red-eye. Red-eye can indicate a local problem such as conjunctivitis, glaucoma, and a systemic problem e.g., retinal bleeding which can be caused by high blood pressure.
