Elbow

In dogs, 60% of their body weight lies on front limbs so elbow health is crucial. For the normal functioning of the elbow, all the bones must be aligned including the humerus, radius, and ulna. In case of disarrangement of these bones, dysplasia results. Dysplasia is abnormal elbow joint development and causes lameness which is quite common in dogs of large breeds. Disorder in the alignment of bones hinders normal joint movement. When this condition persists for a long time, it leads to arthritis. Dogs suffering from elbow pain show symptoms like avoiding the use of stairs and not putting weight on the limbs.  Joint inflammation should be minimized to avoid the development of these conditions later in life. Maintaining a healthy body weight is recommended for joint health. In case of inflammation, anti-inflammatory medication, physical therapy, and dietary supplements are recommended. In severe cases, surgery may be required.
