Kidneys

Kidneys are vital organs and are present in the mid-abdomen under the spinal column. They receive about 25% of total blood pumped out of the heart to filter toxins from it. They function in maintaining electrolyte balance and blood pressure. Diseases that can impair the function of kidneys include

  • inflammation
  • toxin ingestion
  • cancer

Other causes include underlying diseases.

Dogs with abnormal kidneys show symptoms like lethargy, vomiting, and anorexia. They are common in dogs with acute kidney failures while in the case of chronic renal failure, the symptoms are delayed and the disease is found incidentally during routine health checkups. For early detection, you must visit your vet regularly that involves routine evaluation of blood and urine.
