Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism is a condition that results due to the inadequate production of thyroid hormone by thyroid glands which are present on each side of the neck. Certain breeds such as Golden Retriever and Doberman Pinscher are predisposed to this condition. similarly, middle-aged dogs are more susceptible. Dogs with hyperthyroidism have a low energy level, weight gain, and conditions that involve skin like thinning f hair coat, dry skin, and skin infection. The level of thyroid hormone in the blood is evaluated by blood testing.  To treat this condition, lifelong oral supplementation of thyroid hormone is prescribed. Dogs on oral supplementation can live an active and healthy life.
