Lhasa apso, a dog breed from Tibet, is an indoor watchdog. Nowadays, Lhasa is not a palace guard, however, primarily a family dog who faithfully guards its loved ones against danger. Although these are purebred dogs, you might find them in the care of rescue groups or shelters.

History

The Lhasa Apso has a long history in the country of Tibet. They’ve been known at least since the year-800 AD. For decades they were living in isolation with Tibetan Buddhists in the Himalayan Hills. Lhasa is the capital of Tibet. The term “apso” is involved in the breed’s name is less obvious.

Care and Grooming

A brush out 2-3 times weekly is perfect with baths every 1-2 weeks. Never brush a dry coat; continuously mist using a moisturizing spray. Weekly brushing is recommended. Regular baths, which range between 1-4 weeks, are advisable.
