GOLDEN RETRIEVER

The golden retriever is a dog specie with a glooming, long and waxy coat. Golden retrievers’ sparkling eyes and captivating smile make them amiable. They are well-known for their loveable and pacific nature. They are very social and strong hunting dogs.

History of Golden retrievers

The Golden retriever breed was produced during the Victorian dog-loving period.  The golden retrievers are the descendants of yellow retrievers, wavy- and flag-coated retrievers, a red setter, and the Tweed Water Spaniel. Lord Tweedmouth is generally considered the first person to produce a golden retriever. Still, some old portray shows that a breed similar to golden retriever was present in the Scotland. The breed was given the name golden retriever from yellow retrievers in 1911. The American club acknowledged golden retrievers in 1925.

Physical appearance

Golden retriever’s coat color varies from light golden to dark golden. Golden retrievers usually weigh about 65 to 75 pounds in males and 55 to 65 pounds in female. They take about one year to reach their full height and two years to gain their total weight.

Temperament

Golden retrievers are very courteous, fun-loving dogs. They enjoy open-air spaces and love to interact with other dogs and people. They enjoy playing different kinds of games. Golden retrievers can grasp new things very quickly. That is the reason they are easily trainable.

Average lifetime

Golden retrievers can live up to 10 to 12 years. This breed can be vulnerable to different diseases, so pet owners need to take care of them and get them vaccinated timely.

Vulnerability to diseases

Golden retrievers are usually in good health and are physically fit, but they can also get some diseases if not vaccinated. Some conditions are mentioned below which can affect their health.

Care and grooming

Golden retrievers have very thick double coats so it’s imperative to brush them daily. Daily brushing will prevent any knots in their coats. And it will also remove any dead cells from the body and exfoliate the skin. Brushing teeth on a daily basis is also necessary to avoid any dental problems. Golden retrievers need to be exercised regularly to avoid developing any bad behavior and be mentally and physically fit.
