The versatile German Shorthaired Pointer sporting dog hunts various games, retrieves on land or water, and is a loving companion.

History

The American Kennel Club identified the German Shorthaired Pointer in 1930; however, in native Germany, its origin dates back to the seventeenth century. According to the AKC, it is most likely that the German Shorthaired Pointer descended from an earlier dog breed known as the German Bird Dog, a mixture of even previous breeds.

Care and Grooming

German Shorthaired Pointer sheds all year round, including the wintertime. Grooming is required after 4-8 week intervals to clean up ears, cut nails, examine anal glands and assure the skin and coat are healthy.
