Akita

The Akita is a strong, large dog with an intimidating and noble presence. They had been initially employed for protecting nobility and royalty in feudal Japan.

History

The Akita came from the rural and snowy areas of Odate, Akita prefecture, and a mountainous area of Japan. Akitas were taught to hunt animals like wild boars. This dog breed had been involved in dog fighting that had been popular in Japan in the 1600s.

Care and Grooming

The Akita may need regular brushing and bathing. This dignified and bright dog might be bathed as often as weekly, but no fewer than once every six weeks. The coat has to be brushed and bathed every week to prevent the dog from becoming tangled and matted.
